Blue and gold macaws (Ara ararauna)
In August 1999, I traveled with a group of parrot lovers to Tambopata
Research Center, in Peru. Our trip was led by Jeff Kidston and
Dawn Anderson, who have been to TRC many times.
This trip was the vacation of a lifetime and left me with fond
memories of the beautiful Amazon rain forest and the wildlife I saw
there.
But the most rewarding part of the trip was observing the beautiful
wild parrot species that fly free, high above the canopy. As
someone who shares her daily life with four parrots, it was gratifying
and enriching to see the wonderful life they live unfettered by the four
walls of a cage.
This trip made me a better parrot "owner". I came
home wanting to do more for my parrots and to enrich their lives beyond
just providing toys and food.
